Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is one of the best luxury lodges in the Volcanoes National Park. Located at the foothills of the volcanoes, the lodge is located in Musanze district just next to the Parc National des Volcans park headquarters. This is the first community owned lodge in the Volcanoes National Park. It is owned by Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA), a community trust. The lodge is managed by Governors Camp.

It is strategically located at a point which offers quick accessibility of the park headquarters  to visitors who are interested in gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park.

The lodge is situated at the foothill of the Virunga ranges, a position that offers a wonderful view of the rolling hills of the Virunga Mountains.

The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is situated near the Parc National des Volcans park headquarters where most of the park activities begin especially mountain gorilla tracking which is the most exciting and rewarding activity in this park. This lodges sits at the bottom of the breathtaking Virungas Mountains, a chain of several volcanoes that span through 3 of the East African countries including Rwanda, D. R. Congo and Uganda; offering beautiful views of the undulating countryside as well as the mountains.

The Guest cottages together with the main lodge-building were magnificently constructed and well furnished offering the guest the best place to base during our Rwanda Safari to explore this part of Rwanda.

This lodge was constructed and is managed by Governors’ Camp. It is owned by a Community-Trust called SACOLA that utilizes rentals as well as community fees obtained from the lodge to run conservation plus socio-economic initiatives in the park’s nearby local communities.

Location

The lodge is located next to Parc National des Volcans, in northwestern Rwanda, about 3 kilometers from the Park’s main entrance, and approximately 2 hours drive from Kigali city along good roads.

Accommodation

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge offers its accommodation in 6 cottages, 2 suites and 1 family cottage. Each of these is a stone building having the unique Rwandese terracotta roof tiles. The cottages have a spacious sitting area, fireplace, elegant en-suite bathroom facilities complimented with a dressing room as well as a private veranda. The bathrooms are supplied with running hot and cold water. The family cottage has two en-suite rooms linked together by a shared verandah. Each of the rooms has a nice polished wooden floor.

The Main Lodge

The main-lodge building has a reception, a sitting room having a homely area, a dining room, a library or games room, a souvenir shop, a community awareness room as well as bathrooms. There are fireplaces that offer warmth to the guests especially in the evenings and at night, while the patio areas reward you with breathtaking views of the towering Virunga Volcanoes as well as the nearby cultivated farmland.

Mountain Gorilla Tracking

The number attraction of this lodge is its closeness to Virunga Mountains as well as the Parc National des Volcans home of the gorillas where holidaymakers trek on foot in search of these amazing giants. The Bar and Restaurant at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Found within the main building of the lodge, these have fireplaces to provide warmth especially in the cold weather. They also have outside decks where you can enjoy al-fresco drinks as well as your meals especially during the higher temperatures of the day.

Room service

Each of the Cottages is connected to the Reception desk by telephone. They provide room service on request. There is a wakeup call each day notifying guest when tea or coffee is ready.

Number of beds:            

There are 20 beds shared among its 6 cottages, 2 suite cottages and one family suite. Each of these has en-suite bathroom facilities with a bath, shower, flush loo, and running water hot & cold.

Laundry:             

This can be done daily at the lodge without any additional fee.
