This 5 Days Rwanda Safari combines two amazing experiences. Go gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park and hike the Karisimbi Volcano on this trip.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kinigi
Our Company guide will meet you at Kigali International Airport. Depending on your arrival time, your driver/guide may suggest you a visit of Kigali city tour such as visiting the Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi. You will then continue to Kinigi at the bottom hills of the Volcanoes. Overnight at Kinigi guest house/Mt Gorilla Nest Lodge (FB)
Day 2: Gorilla tracking day
After breakfast, depart to the park Headquarters where you will meet your ranger guides for briefing. After briefing, get ready for gorilla tracking in the forest. Tracking the gorillas goes through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a thrilling experience. If you are lucky you can get to the gorillas in just few minutes, spend an hour with them, and be back at the lodge! Some gorilla families however are more elusive, and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is muddy and wet. This is the highlight of your gorilla safari in Rwanda. After the trekking, if time allow have lunch at Ruhengeri and an excursion to explore the beautiful lakes in the region (Lake Bulera & Ruhondo). Day 3: Hiking the Karisimbi.
After a heavy breakfast, be ready for a 2 day volcano hiking on Karisimbi. Its name in Kinyarwanda means “white shell”, which refers to its often white-capped summit. The Karisimbi is the 5th highest mountain of Africa. The climb will start early in the morning and takes 6 hours. You will climb further via the Bisoke side, before reaching the first stopping place at an altitude of 3.700m for overnight. This is a wonderful walk to the highest mountain in the Virungas (4507m). It does not require technical skills, but clients have to be fit and healthy as the walk is quite arduous and conditions can be wet, cold and muddy. You will camp at the mountain (B-L-D) (The best months to climb the Karisimbi are: January, February, March and July, August, September)
Day 4: Hiking Karisimbi
Early morning breakfast and you continue climbing up to the top. It will take about 4 hours to reach the summit of the volcano. Expect stunning scenery and fascinating vegetation. Descent of the volcano will take approximately 6 hours. Your guide will be waiting for you at the foothill and transfer you to Kigali for overnight at the hotel of your choice. (B-L-D)
Day 5: Departure
If you missed the city tour on your day one you will then go for it this day before your outbound flight.
