The 5 days Rwanda Safari is one of the best experiences to encounter mountain gorillas in Volcanoes Park and the big five animals in Akagera National Park. The trip is conducted in the two of the main destinations in the country that is Volcanoes national park where you will have an up-close encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Later, you will proceed to a home of thousands of wildlife species including the big five African animals – lion, elephants, rhinos, leopards and African buffalo, Akagera national park. You will explore the unique and beautiful vegetation cover of the country that is filled with both savannah grasslands and woodlands. You will also spot several species aside the wildlife such as bird species, insects, plants, butterflies, reptiles and many others.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
On the first day of the trip, you will be welcomed by your driver/guide from the hotel or Kigali International Airport for your journey to Akagera national park. During the drive, you will pass through the beautiful wilderness of the land of thousand hills. Expect to arrive at the park in the afternoon hours, check in at the lodge of your choice for lunch and refreshments and later go for an evening game drive in the driving tracks of the park. During the drive, you will spot several wildlife species like elephants, impalas, lions, zebras, and many others. After the game viewing experience, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise
Wake up for your early breakfast and go for an early morning game drive where you will spot large sums of wildlife including the big 5 – lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and buffalos and the others as they graze in the open savannah of the park. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch and embark on an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will enjoy the cool breathe while watching several species of wildlife along the shores of the lake Ihema such as mammals including Elephants, Buffaloes, Impalas, Hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, zebras, topis, and several species of water birds among others. Have an evening game drive as you return to the lodge for dinner and have an overnight stay
Day 3: Drive to Volcanoes National Park
Have your breakfast and check out of the lodge for your transfer to the home of the endangered mountain gorillas, Volcanoes national park. You will drive through the beautiful land scape and sceneries that are filled with a unique vegetation cover, coffee plantations, hills and a lot more. You will have an enroute lunch and later check in at the lodge of your choice in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience and Cultural Encounter
With your packed lunch and snacks, you will have your early breakfast and drive to the headquarters of Volcanoes national park for a pre trek briefing. After, you will move to the forests by the guidance of the game ranger in search of the habituated mountain gorillas. These endangered species are used to human presence and once you allocate them, you will be allowed to spend a maximum of an hour with them and the time will surely be worthy since you will learn more about their daily lifestyles like feeding, breast feeding, playing and others. After the experience, return to the lodge for relaxation and refreshments as you prepare for an evening cultural tour where you will spend some time within Ibyiwacu cultural village for a breath-taking Kinyarwanda traditional, cultural dances and drama. Later, drive back to the lodge for dinner and have an overnight stay.
Day 5: Drive back to Kigali for your Departure Flight
Wake up for your relaxed breakfast at the lodge and later check out for your transfer drive to Kigali International airport or hotel. You will have an enroute city excursion to visit different places like Kigali museum, the genocide memorial sites, historical sites and many others. Later, you will be dropped at a destination of your choice after an enroute lunch in Kigali.
