Mount Muhabura/Muhavura
Standing at an elevation of 4127m, Mt. Muhabura is the 3rd tallest Virunga Massif of the 8 chain volcanoes found in Uganda, Rwanda and D.R. Congo. It is possible to climb to the summits of Muhabura on the side of Rwanda or Uganda. Muhavura volcano offers spectacular sunset views and the Crater Lake.
Karisimbi Volcano
Mount Karisimbi is 4507m making it the highest volcano. This is shared by Congo and Rwanda, lying near the active volcanoes -Nyiragongo and the dormant Mikeno plus Mt. Bisoke. Mt. Karisimbi is Africa’s 5th highest peak and hiking to its summits takes 2 days to and from. The first trekking leads climbers to 3700m altitude and the following day, proceed to the final summit at 4507m then descend.
Bisoke/Visoke Volcano
Bisoke volcano is 3700m and this is one of the best volcanoes one can hike. It has a spectacular Crater Lake (Ngezi Lake) and it is fully found in Rwanda. Climbing to the top of Bisoke isn’t strenuous as hiking to the summits of Mount Kilimanjaro. Around hiking adventure in Bisoke takes about 5 hours and you require a good rain jacket, sturdy hiking boots, long-sleeved shirt, daypack, trousers, daypack, and others. The picturesque Lake Ngezi trail is what leads climbers to the stunning Visoke summits and Crater. It is the shortest trek any hiker can take part, lasting for about 3-4 hours and there is a chance to enjoy the sights of many birds and monkey species.
